Our story
Why Clay Broussard exists
The practice is named after Clay Broussard, the controller who trained Barbara Davis during her first accounting job in 1998. He kept a index card taped to his monitor that read "reconcile it, then explain it." That card is still the whole method.
Barbara opened the firm in Olympia in 2012 after nine years as controller of a regional construction supply company. In that role she watched dozens of small vendors run into avoidable trouble: missed L&I filings, sales tax collected but never remitted, payroll classified wrong, and books that nobody had reconciled in eleven months.
None of those owners were careless. They were simply busy running the business, and the person they had hired to watch the numbers was not watching closely enough.
Today the practice supports more than 180 Washington businesses. We have stayed small on purpose. Barbara reviews every monthly close personally, and we cap the client roster so that quarterly review meetings never become a formality.

Fixed fees, always
Recurring work is quoted monthly in advance. You will never receive an invoice for a phone call.
Plain language
Every report comes with a short written summary. If a term needs a glossary, we explain it instead.
No lock-in
Thirty days' notice ends the engagement, and your files leave with you in their native format at no cost.
We say no
If your situation needs a CPA, an attorney or a payroll bureau instead of us, we will tell you on the first call.

Owner & principal bookkeeper. Fourteen years in practice, nine years as a manufacturing controller before that. Advanced QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor. Reviews and signs off on every monthly close.
Renata Okafor
Payroll & compliance lead. Handles payroll runs, L&I and ESD reporting, worker classification questions and year-end W-2 and 1099 issuance for our multi-employee clients.
Tom Beaudry
Staff bookkeeper. Day-to-day reconciliation, AP/AR entry, merchant settlement matching, and the person who will chase your bank when a feed breaks.
